Cherries Training Camp ^_^
Dear all,
I am here in Malaysia on my CEEDership Program. It is one of AIESEC program where a member of AIESEC travels abroad, to another local committee and helps there with their work. I was the lucky one that I got here. It was AIESEC UK who chosen me to come. And I am thanking them for that. By now I had really good time in AIESEC UTM. I generally think that Malaysian culture is very nice, hospitable and friendly. I have got only one week left and I am hoping to come back because I will miss Malaysia a lot. While I have been here I was involved in most of AIESEC activities. In the beginning it was recruitment at UTM, then MIA, Colours and Cherries Camp.
Cherries Camp was the last AIESEC UTM event which I have attended. Cherries camp was for AIESEC and non-AIESEC members to participate and see and feel how to be a disabled person. To learn how is hard to be a disabled person. We had a number of speakers to come who had some disability. We were listening to them, from their point of view, how they feel.
The first day when we came, it was early morning. People in the home were already up. So we started our first session. Our first session was with a lady from Kuala Lumpur. She was on wheelchair. It was amazing listen to her; listen to her stories and feelings. We were feeling with her.
The next sessions were based not on speeches but they were based more on playing games with disabled and practice how to handle them. It was very interesting too. Some AIESECers they have never handled any disabled. So for them it was a big experience.
Later on we had to prepare for our talent show. It was very nice because the disabled were taking part as well. Once we got ready for our talent show then we went out because we had to play – ‘Treasure Hunt’. We played ‘Treasure Hunt’ together with disabled. They enjoyed it very much and us too. We could see their faces were much happier, they felt like one of us. We all were very pleased.
After the Treasure Hunt we had discussion talks. Everyone could contribute with some new ideas or just ask questions.
The next day early morning we had to wake up, have breakfast and then a speech. The speech was presented by a blind professor. It was very interesting to see how he acts, his moves, his speech… you really couldn’t see that he is blind. He was a very smart and funny man.
This was a Cherries Camp. It was an amazing experience which I would recommend to everyone. You learn there lots of things and skills. What is the best about the camp is that it is very interactive and it does involve the disabled as well so you have an opportunity to practice handling.
I hope that this camp will become an annual event for AIESEC UTM and every year bigger and bigger with more participants from AIESEC and externals.
Signing off,
Eva
